What is Insurance?

Insurance is a two party contract between the insured and the insurance company, "Risk" (uncertainty about loss) is transferred for a consideration, from the insured to the insurer.

What factors determine insurance rates?

Rating is the pricing of insurance calculated by actuaries.  Factors may include construction, occupancy, fire protection, loss experience, square footage, claim frequency, etc.
